One Room Challenge Week 1

So I did a big thing…

I am a guest participant in the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge in the middle of a pandemic! What better time than the present!?

Lara Morrill One Room Challenge

The One Room Challenge is a bi-annual online event motivating home bloggers to transform a room of their choice while documenting the process over the course of 7 weeks (typically 5 weeks but due to Covid-19 there are extended shipping times and also the fact that most participants are home with their kids right now… and we all know how challenging it is to get anything done with them around.)

“your health and well-being is the number one priority. We know many of you have been working hard and encourage you to continue at a pace that's safe for you and your community by sheltering in place. Instead of going out and shopping, this is the time to use what you have and let your creativity shine. Relax, go slowly, and stay at home.”

– The amazing Linda Weinstein and her ORC team

This is an event to provide a supportive community. It is not a competition. ORC is a celebration of creativity, inspiration and unique design ideas. I will be using this opportunity to bring you  along with me on this journey as I transform…. My Hubby’s Home Office!!!

At first glance the current office isn’t so bad. But it’s a small space and as you can see he requires quite a bit of technology (when his office closed and all employees started working from home he had the IT department ship him a second monitor for a similar set up to what he has at work.) This desk and bookshelves are from Ikea; and although extremely space-saving (this room is only 117 square feet) they’re not very practical for his needs. Until just recently this offices was mostly where I worked so it really needs some updates to fit his style and temperament along with technology to improve productivity that will help drive results with an executive presence and inspirational flair.

I start every design with a mood-board which represents the users personality traits, interests and the mood of the room we are designing. Check out the mood-board inspiration I created for my husband Bill’s home office

Stay tuned next week to see how the design will continue to evolve
